Precision-machined R-series gaskets are designed to seal in high-pressure and high-temperature applications. R-series gaskets are manufactured in two cross-section configurations, oval and octagonal. Both have identical pitch diameters to the corresponding flange and can be used in pressures up to 5,000 psi. The octagonal profile has a higher sealing coefficient than the oval, making it a better sealing gasket.
RX gaskets are engineered for pressures reaching up to 5,000 PSI and can be used interchangeably with R-oval or R-octagonal rings on API 6B flanges. RX gaskets excel in 6B flanged blowout preventer stacks. The added mass of RX gaskets is necessary to endure the higher pressures, increased vibrations, and heavier weights of such units.
The BX Series can only be used with 6BX flanges and 16BX hubs. BX-Gaskets have been designed for higher-pressure ratings from 5,000 lbs. to 20,000 lbs. Pitch diameters on BX gaskets are slightly larger than the pitch diameter of the flange. This forces the gasket to initially seal on its outside angles and secondly seal with its inside angles as the flange is bolted down to respective torque settings.
The American Petroleum Institute (API) has standardized the use of SBX series ring gaskets for underwater applications. The “S” prefix indicates the gaskets have vent holes that facilitate a pressureless initial contact during underwater make-up.
